Indigo Dyed Dorset 4ply Limited Edition

Indigo Dyed Dorset 4ply Limited Edition

It’s shop update time again! Tonight I will have a lot of Natural Sock 4ply coming to the shop- in full skeins mainly and a mini skein set. I will also have a small amount of indigo dyed Dorset 4ply- then that will be it until next year for the Dorset. You can read more about the Dorset 4ply limited edition here: https://www.woollymammothfibrecompany.com/journal/dorsetbase

I will also have a few stunning new colourways, inspired by Autumn of course. Here are some photographs of two I’m particularly proud of:

Blackberry Crumble

Blackberry Crumble

Blackberry Crumble- a new colourway inspired by eating my first blackberry this season, and partly by the poem by Seamus Heaney- ‘Blackberry Picking’, which comes into my thoughts every year at this time.

“Late August, given heavy rain and sun

For a full week, the blackberries would ripen.

At first, just one, a glossy purple dot.

Among others, red, green, hard as a knot”

You can read the full poem by clicking on this link.

This colourway will also be available next month, so don’t panic if you don’t get as many skeins as you’d like.

Elderberry Preserve

Elderberry Preserve

Another new colourway, which I decided to create on account of the elder tree which has been developing the most beautiful berries this month. They aren’t yet ripe but them stems are bright pink and the berries are a deep deep purple.

Round here, the elder is often called a Boortrie Tree (that’s what my Granny calls it anyway), and I like this name because it comes from the word ‘bower’, meaning ‘attractive retreat or dwelling’, on account of the trees naturally bending branches providing shade. The influence of this word in this part of the world probably comes from the Scottish dialect.

I’ve also been listening to this new song from Foy Vance a lot recently, which also mentions the word bower, if you want to listen to a musical accompaniment to your yarn colourways!

Don’t forget that indigo crocks off when knitting with it, this is not considered a fault- you can read more about it here under the “Natural Dyes” section. I’ll also include aftercare instructions for anyone who purchases a skein of indigo dyed yarn.

BFL/ Gotland DK

I’ll also have a fair bit of BFL/ Gotland DK- here are the colours available.

So that’s pretty much all for this update. Just wanted to also say thanks for the huge welcome you gave to the the Autumn Equinox Boxes, and I hope you all love them when they arrive! I plan on making a few more Winter Solstice Boxes as they were so popular, so if that is something you’re interested in you can keep an eye out for that. They will be releasing in October.

Another little note just to say that I won’t be doing advent calendars this year- that is not to say they are gone forever, I am just taking a break this year and focusing on my Equinox and Solstice Boxes instead.

Here’s a Rufus photo of Rufus upside down!
