May Shop Update // 25th May, 8:00pm GMT+1
My little niece one day recently asked “Why do the seasons go round and round?”. Such a good question. And here we are at the end of spring for this year. This year spring has been so nice, slow to start- yes- but beautiful to watch everything emerge once again. Along with this emerging in the garden has been a time of colour flux for myself- I’ve had a spurt of bright intense colours within my dye palette that I’ve been really enjoying. This has been accompanied by a spurt of bright intense colour in my wardrobe! I’m normally a more subdued colour person, so I’m not sure how long this will last- it might be a short burst of colour for the summer and then it may be gone again. The season has gone to my head!
In this month’s shop update there will be lots of zingy, zesty pops of colours. As you can imagine, it often requires a lot of effort, energy and time to create these bright colours using natural dyes, so it’s not something I can do all the time but I am finding this revised palette so refreshing at the moment. I’ll have new colours on my Natural Sock base, including various sizes of mini-skein sets and sock sets. (Left is Helter Skelter mini skein set- 80g-320m and on the right is Barry’s Big Dipper [if you know, you know ;) ] 120g/480m).
I have been experimenting with marling different colours of my yarn together recently, using my Natural Sock base. Holding two strands together of different colours and different values* to see what effect I can get. What I found has been quite interesting- the lower contrast a.k.a the smaller the difference in value of the colours the more the colours meld together. From far away the two colours almost become one. The higher contrast stays more punchy and marled looking from far away. Below you can see the green and pink yarns are of similar value and meld into one another, whereas the red and pink are a much more punchy marl. And to the left you can see where I get my colour inspiration!
