Shop Update Preview- Hearth DK- 31st Aug, 8:00pm GMT+1
Three months has passed since the shop has last been updated with ready to ship yarn. It’s crazy how time flies, isn’t it? Well, I’ve got a new yarn base to introduce to you: Hearth DK!
It’s a sister yarn to my Hearth Sock, but with several differences. Here’s the spec:
100g/ 240m (262yards)
DK weight, worsted spun
50% BFL/ 50% Jacobs
Sourced and spun in the UK
The differences are firstly that it’s a heavier weight than my Hearth Sock (it’s 330m per 100g), making it perfect for sweaters, shawls and hats- all the cosy knits. Secondly it’s not high twist, so not suitable for socks- it has a more relaxed ply similar to my BFL/ Masham DK base.
Finally it’s a 2-ply yarn rather than a 3-ply yarn- that means that two strands make up the final yarn rather than three. It has a nice amount of drape and softness from the BFL and a nice amount of sheepiness from the Jacobs.
So thats pretty exciting to announce, I’ve been hoping to create something like this for sometime, it has been in the works for over a year now I think!
The lovely Vanessa Pellisa has created a beautiful pattern to launch along with the yarn- the Micaela Shawl!
It is knitted with three skeins of my Undyed Hearth DK, and is a lovely relaxing mixture of garter stitch and fisherman’s rib. Here’s how Vanessa describes it:
“Inspired by the textured landscape of my hometown. Sparrows ad cicadas singing in the background, old olive and hazelnut trees, cracking leaves, and the ever present wind”
I have already cast on my own version and I’m approaching the second fisherman’s rib section!

In other news, I have a podcast episode out, yay! Here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogeGD3_Hd_k
Hope you enjoy this episode. It is very likely to be the last one recorded in the greenhouse this year. Next one will be beside the cosy fire again!
