Shop Update Preview- 11th March, 10:00am GMT

If you haven’t heard already I’m going to be trying a little experiment this month. Instead of doing an official shop update, I’ll be adding skeins to the shop more sporadically- tomorrow I am adding some scrummy BFL/ Masham DK to the shop. I will have five colours: Undyed, Peony, Wildflower Dark, Wildflower Light and Copper.

The reason I am trying this for one month is to see if it alleviates panic buying at all, however, I can already see some difficulties for myself and others if I continue to add skeins sporadically to the shop. For example, it is very inefficient time wise for me- instead of labelling, photographing, editing and uploading everything all in one go, I have to make time to do it randomly throughout the month. For those purchasing from overseas, where the shipping cost is more expensive, I can also imagine it would be frustrating to have to make two orders if you want more than one thing for something you would like in one month.

I think the model of sporadically adding to the shop would only work if I could keep up with demand, and keep my web shop full at all times. The reality is is that I can’t- it’s quite impossible for me with natural dyeing, and also the nature of having a limited product. The thing about having a batch of yarn from one flock is that so many fleeces only make so many skeins so yarn, and that’s just the way it is- nothing can be done to change that. I have bought fleeces from bigger flocks, which has helped a little bit, which is great. But to go back to the dyeing, for now anyhow, it will continue to be small batch as that is what I can realistically manage.
